It Sounded Good!

An overnight getaway to celebrate our anniversary! That was what my husband and I planned. Our aim was to take in the fall colors and leave behind the telephone calls, the living-at-home daughter, and all of the other commotion that fills our home. It was to be a little romantic time with each other.

I went on the web to find a hotel/motel to stay in on our overnight jaunt. With the vast number of choices available, it was hard to make a selection until my eyes read the words “high performance beds.” This was what one lodging offered. Wow! I thought. This is exactly what we need! I got excited. It had been years since there had been any “high performance” in our bed. Maybe, just maybe, we would find it at this motel! I booked a room.

To be fair, our 29 years of marriage have been marked with some performance in our bed…it’s just that “high performance” has lessened as our ages have increased. Now that we were in our early 60’s, it took too much effort to get the “high” in our performance. But this would soon be remedied. After all, this motel had “high performance beds!”

Although I have learned over the years that you can’t believe everything you hear or read, I still get hooked at times…and this was one of them. There must be some truth to this proclamation!

After a day of glorious leaf gazing, my husband and I arrived at the motel. We both were anxious to test out the high performance beds—there were two queen-sized ones in our room. After closing the door to our room, we each rushed to a bed and lay down.

We agreed that the beds were comfortable…but “high performance?” We couldn’t figure out why they would be promoted this way. The beds were, in our opinion, ordinary beds. Good beds, but ordinary beds. They didn’t vibrate…they didn’t have a device to raise and lower the top section or the bottom section…they didn’t have a heating unit to warm them up. They were just beds!

My husband then suggested that we put the high performance in the beds. After showering together—something we haven’t done in years—we set about or task of making the motel’s definition of the beds a reality. First we tried out one bed. High performance, for sure! After a short nap, we moved to the other bed. Yep! This one was high performance, too! The motel had been right!
