One for You, One, Two Three for Me
Each year I easily double my Hanukkah and Christmas budget by shopping for myself. This is especially problematic when I shop for the women in my life. This year I am thinking about giving my sis a Juicy tracksuit. She would never buy one for herself, and would enjoy romping around in one. With two kids and one more on the way, she could use a little casual glamour. But if she gets one, shouldn’t I get one (or two or three) too?
Not this year. As I shop (almost exclusively online) and see something I desperately desire, I’ll add the item to a wish list on the store’s website. In that way, I will still enjoy the satisfaction of selecting and clicking, but will delay the purchase until at least December 26th. By then my items will be either on sale, or, even better, out of stock.
I have learned the hard way that most potential purchases are things that I don’t actually want. So I use Wish List Technology to allow the impule moment to pass. If I hold off on gifts for me for a few weeks, I will probably have gotten over the sumptuous, velvety, figure-flattering tracksuit.

Me too! I need less and less and enjoy the option to collect potential purchases utilizing wish lists. I have introduced my lists to the few in my life with whom I exchange gifts - the only concern is remembering to modify the lists when I decide against an item (most uncomfortable to return a gift I selected myself!).
