A Happy Birthday
I usually hate my birthday. It has nothing to do with my advancing age. I’ve accepted that each year I get older. What I hate is the presents that my husband gets for me. I’ve learned the hard way—with lots of useless stuff—that my husband doesn’t have a clue about gift-giving. He just picks up something at the last minute that may or may not—and usually doesn’t—appeal to me. A present for me is to him an obligation and not a joy.
This past birthday, however, was the best ever. When he asked me what he could buy for me, I said I didn’t want anything. “I have everything I need…in fact, I have too much stuff,” I told him. He was relieved. I saved him a trip to the closest store—it’s a hardware store—to pick up something for me.
“What I do want, however,” I said to him, “is for you to clean out your closet and get rid of all the clothes that you don’t wear. And then I want you to give me half your closet. This is all I want for my birthday!” (I have been trying to get him to clean his closet for years!)
On the day of my birthday he gave me a lovely, mushy card. I was pleased. I was pleased even more when he headed for his closet and began piling up clothes to donate to the needy. Three hours later he presented me with half of his closet—a generous space for some of my too-many clothes.
I spent the next two hours sorting through my clothes and organizing them in my now one-and-a-half closet space. How joyous to discover that no longer do I have to painstakingly shove clothes onto a rod that made each piece of wardrobe wrinkled within minutes. Ahhh! What luxury! Now why hadn’t I asked for this present years ago?

Woohoo! You GO Sandy! I finally made Marc a list of about 35 things that would make a lovely gift any time, heck even multiple times! I can hardly wait until Christmas to see if the list works!
I'm glad you had a lovely birthday!
Give Myrtle little nudge for me...
