A Great Deal?!

Damn! It happened again!

Last night my friend told me her daughter got a car just like mine at a price that was $50 less a month than what I am paying for my new leased vehicle. If that information wasn’t bad enough, my friend informed me that her daughter was able “to buy her car!” With just $1,000 down—I could have come up with that amount of money—this exactly-the-same-car driver BOUGHT her car. I’m stuck with a 36-month lease and 36 months of watching my mileage. This just doesn’t seem right! (Of course, I’ve learned the hard way many, many times over the years that I tend to end on the wrong side of “right” situations!)

Up until 8:30 p.m. last night I was riding high. I got my new leased vehicle at a great price and $32 less than the price of this same model of my former leased car. I had done my research and made all the calls to assure a deal. I had every discount available. I felt that I was a smart negotiator.

Then a few minutes of conversation with a friend was all that it took to burst my bubble.

I know that we should be happy for what we have and not look at what others have, but come on! This just isn’t fair. My friend’s daughter is in her late twenties and she and her husband make bucko bucks. They have a lot more money than this aging writer and spouse who need every penny to make ends meet. I needed a great deal on a car and I thought I had one until…

Ahhh! I did get some satisfaction when I learned that my friend’s daughter wanted the car in white, but had to get the black model. I am driving around in a glorious white—my first choice—car with all the bells and whistles!
